AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE INDIAN AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT FOR A DOCUMENTARY ON NAVAJO CODE TALKERS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the Indian affairs department for expenditure in fiscal years 2006 and 2007 for the filming of the Navajo reservation segment of a documentary on Navajo code talkers that places the code talkers' contributions during World War II within the context of the history of the Navajo Nation before and after the war. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.

     Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
