AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO IDENTIFY EXISTING NAVAJO AND ENGLISH BILINGUAL CONTENT AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING AND DEVELOP AND DISTRIBUTE LANGUAGE AND EDUCATIONAL CURRICULA USING DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

          A. Six hundred fifty-five thousand five hundred ninety-six dollars ($655,596) is appropriated from the general fund to the Indian affairs department for expenditure in fiscal year 2007 in the following amounts for the following purposes:

                (1) one hundred fifty-six thousand eight hundred forty-eight dollars ($156,848) to coordinate with the Crownpoint institute of technology and the public broadcasting station KNME to identify existing Navajo and English bilingual content and educational programming; and

                (2) four hundred ninety-eight thousand seven hundred forty-eight dollars ($498,748) to produce, in conjunction with the Navajo Nation broadcasting service and the Crownpoint institute of technology, curricula to support the Navajo language needs of students in pre-kindergarten through higher education by developing and distributing educational and language programming by use of digital technology.

          B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
