AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO INCREASE THE AWARD AMOUNT PER STUDENT FROM THE HEALTH PROFESSIONAL LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million two hundred eighty thousand dollars ($1,280,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the higher education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2007 to increase the average amount awarded per student in the health professional loan repayment program to approximately eighty thousand dollars ($80,000) to encourage greater participation in the program and increase the number of health professionals serving in rural areas of the state. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
