FOR THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE

 

AN ACT

RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION; REQUIRING ALL PUBLIC POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS TO USE PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENT IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS FOR NEW MEXICO STUDENTS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of Chapter 21, Article l NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] PUBLIC POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS--STUDENT IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS--PUBLIC SCHOOL IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS USED.--

          A. Every public post-secondary educational institution, including off-campus instructional programs and learning centers, shall use the public school student identification number issued pursuant to Section 22-2C-11 NMSA 1978 as the student identifier for students who attended New Mexico public schools.

          B. The higher education department may promulgate rules to carry out the provisions of this section."
