A JOINT MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HIGHWAY THAT LINKS MORA AND ANGEL FIRE AND URGING THAT A STUDY BE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE HOW TO IMPROVE HIGHWAY 484 IN NORTHERN NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, highway 434 from Mora to Angel Fire is only thirty-four miles long but often takes over an hour to traverse; and

     WHEREAS, highway 434 links two scenic areas that link other communities and are visited by an increasing number of tourists; and

     WHEREAS, highway 434 is often snow-packed and icy at Angel Fire ski resort, Eagle Nest and Red River; and

     WHEREAS, commerce between Mora and Angel Fire requires a decent roadway, for the needs of both communities; and 

     WHEREAS, the entire portion of the highway between these northern communities is in need of repair and improvement;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that a study of the means and the funding needed to improve highway 434 between Mora and Angel Fire be undertaken by staff of all appropriate departments, including the department of transportation and the tourism department; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be sent to the department of transportation, the tourism department and the leadership of both communities.
