A JOINT MEMORIAL
AUTHORIZING THE CREATION OF THE CERRILLOS HILLS STATE PARK IN SANTA FE COUNTY.
WHEREAS, Section 16-2-11 NMSA 1978 requires legislative approval of any acquisition of land for state park purposes prior to the execution of a written agreement binding the state to an expenditure of funds; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe county has established a park or open space area in southern Santa Fe county to protect and preserve historical and natural elements existing there; and
WHEREAS, the state parks division of the energy, minerals and natural resources department has been invited to participate in discussions regarding the development of the property as a state park;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that if and when a feasibility study favoring the development of the area as a state park is approved by the state parks division of the energy, minerals and natural resources department, the division may enter into agreements with Santa Fe county to create the Cerrillos Hills state park and may acquire land for the park to the extent funds are available to the division and such acquisition is approved pursuant to Section 16-2-11 NMSA 1978 as the Cerrillos Hills state park; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of energy, minerals and natural resources.
