Synopsis of Bill
Senate Joint Memorial 44 – Declaring February 17, 2005 as “Extension Service Day” at the Leg-
islature – notes that:
•
New Mexico State University’s Cooperative Extension Service has provided ex-
pertise and educational programs in agriculture, home economics, natural re-
sources, economic development and 4-H youth development to the people of
New Mexico for more than eighty-five years;
•
the Cooperative Extension Service operates with cooperative funding from fed-
eral, state and county government with offices in every county in the state;
•
the Cooperative Extension Service offers research-based education to all New
Mexicans and helps them improve the quality of their lives; and
•
the Cooperative Extension Service administers the 4-H youth development pro-
gram, which involves fifty-five thousand young people in New Mexico, teaching
them the skills they need to become productive citizens and leaders.
