SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Joint Memorial 6 resolves that the Legislature recognizes the efforts of the Las Vegas
Veterans Committee to preserve and restore the historic “old armory building” and convert it into
the Las Vegas Armory Center to preserve the heritage and military contributions of veterans
from New Mexico. The memorial requests the Las Vegas Veterans Committee conduct a study
with assistance from the New Mexico Congressional delegation, VSD, an appropriate interim
legislative committee and the LFC to determine sources of funding to make the Las Vegas Ar-
mory Center a reality. The study is to be completed by October 31, 2005.
Significant Issues
VSD has a veterans’ service officer currently working within the Las Vegas Armory who coun-
sels veterans on entitlements and other benefits. DMA states the facility could be a center for
education, training, housing, medical and social services for the community.
