SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 936 appropriates $100 thousand from the general fund to the tourism department to
contract with the children’s museum of Washington D.C. to bring its rolling rainforest exhibit to
New Mexico.
Significant Issues
According to PED,
the Rolling Rainforest was created for underserved elementary schools in the
Washington, DC area, but also visits schools and museums throughout the nation. Because it is a
mobile exhibition, it can reach students and teachers who might have transportation or budget
issues. The exhibit, housed in a tractor-trailer, normally visits a school for one week. Programs
for individual classes range from 1 to 2 ½ hours; teachers may select from a variety of programs
that include hands-on activities.
