SUMMARY
Synopsis of Amendment
Senate Education Committee amendments to Senate Bill 436 are technical in nature and do not
change the original intent of the legislation.
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 436 appropriates $122.6 to PED for the Espanola Military Academy (EMA) to coor-
dinate activities with the New Mexico National Guard.
Significant Issues
According to PED, EMA is the only public military school in New Mexico and the only charter
school in Espanola. Through the school’s highly structured programs, EMA provides a disci-
plined learning environment for middle school students.
PERFORMANCE IMPLICATIONS
PED indicates that this program is considered an education reform initiative.
