SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 108 amends the Election Code to set the date for primary elections. Current statute
reads: “a primary election shall be held in each county in the first Tuesday in June of each even-
numbered year”. The amendment calls for the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June of
each even-numbered year to be primary election date.
Significant Issues
This bill clarifies that at a primary is not to be held on the first Tuesday of June, if that day is
June 1st.
This bill will potentially allow primary election candidates a few extra days in which to cam-
paign.
