SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 36 appropriates $100.0 for the Alamogordo Public Schools audio stimulation reading
programs in the elementary schools.
Significant Issues
According to the PED, the Alamogordo Public Schools, in collaboration with New Mexico State
University (NMSU) and the Sierra Dove Global Association, is currently piloting the Alpha Lit-
eracy Program for at-risk students at one school site. A major focus of this program involves
specific auditory stimulation that results in stronger literacy skills (reading, writing, listening and
oral expression) with the intent of closing the achievement gap for high-need
students).
The Alpha Literacy Program was first implemented in New Mexico’s public schools during the
2003-2004 school years.
