SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 10 would create a committee to study and make recommendations on current nutri-
tional offerings in New Mexico public schools and how they can improve. The bill makes an ap-
propriation and contains an emergency clause.
Significant Issues
Senate Bill 10 requires the PED to appoint a committee consisting of school administrators from
urban and rural school districts, a nutrition expert, school board representatives, school food ser-
vice directors and food and beverage industry representatives.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
Senate Bill 10 appropriates $50.0 from the general fund and is recurring. The appropriation is for
FY05 and FY06.

The PED would have to convene the committee and provide administrative support.
Senate Bill 10 does not indicate if the PED is to report its findings to a legislative committee or if
a report is to be produced based on the study.
