SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Memorial 66 would request that the New Mexico Department of Environment (NMED)
and cooperative extension service to collaborate to develop a plan to strengthen New Mexico
communities and protect the state’s environment. It would also resolve that the NMED secre-
tary and associate dean, associate director and district directors of the cooperative extension ser-
vice at NMSU’s College of Agriculture and Home Economics to present a joint report with rec-
ommendations outlining strategies and options for working together to the appropriate interim
legislative committee by November 1, 2005.
Significant Issues
This memorial would promote greater collaboration and communication between NMED and the
state’s cooperative extension service. This would be beneficial in helping NMED to be certain
that environmental regulations address the specific circumstances, needs and concerns in rural
areas.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
There would be minor costs to prepare and disseminate the report.
