House Memorial 47 recognizes the social studies teachers of New Mexico for their exemplary

service to the students and residents of the state.

Significant Issues

The study of social studies is essential to understanding the democratic foundations of our form

of government and shaping the values and beliefs of our citizens. The memorial states social

studies teachers have “excelled” at meeting the high standards set for them in the preparation of

students.
