Synopsis of Bill
House Memorial 35 proclaiming February 17, 2005, as “National Alliance for the Mentally Ill
Day” at the New Mexico State House of Representatives, notes that:
•
The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill is the voice for the mentally ill in New Mexico
and the nation;
•
The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in New Mexico represents eighty thousand
consumers and family members who must cope with mental illness;
•
The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in New Mexico is the exemplary educator for
the courts, law enforcement, health care and other providers and citizens on the need for
treatment of and the reduction of the stigma of serious mental illness;
•
Mabel Frary, one of the pioneers and leaders who founded the National Alliance for the
Mentally Ill in New Mexico recently passed away to a better place and is hereby honored
on this day.
The Memorial resolves that February 17, 2005, is hereby proclaimed "National Alliance for
the Mentally Ill Day" at the House to honor the many advocates who devote themselves to
public policymaking on behalf of the thousands of voiceless New Mexicans who suffer from
mental illness.
