SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 1052 appropriates $50.0 to PED to implement and operate a Saturday school in the
Grants-Cibola County school district for students who are placed in detention or suspended for
behavior that impedes the education of other students.
Significant Issues
According to PED Goals for Safe Schools in New Mexico, staff and students have the right to an
environment that is conducive to learning.
The Title IV application allows for alternative programs to be supported by Safe and Drug-free
Schools and Community Act funds.
The Title IV and Safe Schools Year-End Report requests schools to identify specific alternative
programs that have been implemented.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
House Bill 1052 appropriates $50.0 from the general fund and is recurring.
