SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
HB 960 amends the Public Health Act restricting the administration of ultrasonagraphy or ultra-
sound to that performed pursuant to an order or referral from a licensed physician, nurse prac-
tioner, certified nurse midwife or physician assistant and mandates fines to include possible im-
prisonment.
Significant Issues
Ultrasonagraphy or ultrasound is a diagnostic tool used in a variety of health care settings and
situations. Nurse Practitioners use this diagnostic tool and subsequently treat their patients. A
Nurse Practitioner must write an order for the patient to receive this type of care. Based on the
results of the ultrasound, a diagnosis is made for the patient with subsequent appropriate care be-
ing provided.
