SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 787 appropriates $100 thousand from the general fund to the Department of Public
Safety for the purpose of processing serological, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and trace evi-
dence analyses related to sexual offenses.
PERFORMANCE IMPLICATIONS
DPS states the proposed legislation will allow for DNA evidence testing by private laboratories
for any back-logs that may occur during the fiscal year. DPS also reports the bill will allow the
Forensic Laboratory to have the ability to provide timely DNA evidence to all New Mexico law
enforcement entities.
