SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 732 amends the Election Code, specifically the Absent Voter Precinct Act with new

material regarding the qualifications of members absent voter precinct boards. The bill requires

that absent voter precinct board members have the same qualifications as precinct board mem-

bers, provided that an absent voter precinct board is not a spouse, parent, child, brother or sister

of the county clerk in which the absent voter precinct is created.

Significant Issues

According to the Secretary of State, state law has never prohibited a relative of a county clerk to

work as a precinct official. The Secretary of State contends that some counties have difficulty

finding precinct officials and this legislation may make it even more difficult.
