SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
HB 349 amends Section 22-15C-6 NMSA 1978 for the purpose of changing language from “dis-
tribute” to “allocate” in reference to the distribution of money for school library material.
HB 349, under subsection A, B and C, deletes “…of education” when referring to the “depart-
ment”.
Significant Issues
The PED declares HB 349 will enable them to better meet statutory requirements. Funds are
generally not available for distribution until July 1 of each fiscal year. HB 349 will allow the
PED to provide schools with the allocation (assigned) amount in the preceding April, which will
provide them with sufficient time to plan expenditures for the next school year.
PERFORMANCE IMPLICATIONS
The PED declares HB 349 supports their legislative initiatives.
