A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE MUSEUM OF NEW MEXICO PRESS TO CONTINUE THE PUBLICATION OF THE BOOK, ORIGINS OF NEW MEXICO FAMILIES, BY FRAY ANGELICO CHAVEZ.

     WHEREAS, Origins of New Mexico Families was written by Angelico Chavez, a Franciscan priest, and is a valuable book on Hispanic genealogy in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, this publication is used by genealogists and historians and is considered an extremely important book on a facet of New Mexico's history; and

     WHEREAS, the state of New Mexico owns the copyright to Origins of New Mexico Families and has a duty to ensure that the book remains in publication; and

     WHEREAS, 2004 was the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of this book;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the cultural affairs department and the museum of New Mexico press be requested to keep Origins of New Mexico Families in print so that this important research tool remains easily available; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of cultural affairs and the director of the museum of New Mexico press.
