AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT FOR RECORDING INTERROGATIONS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million dollars ($1,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of public safety for expenditure in fiscal year 2006 to provide funding at the state, county and municipal levels to purchase audio-visual equipment to record interrogation proceedings and confessions of persons being investigated in relation to criminal matters. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2006 shall revert to the general fund.
