AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT FOR THE SMALLER LEARNING COMMUNITIES PILOT PROJECT AT SANTA FE HIGH SCHOOL AND CAPITAL HIGH SCHOOL.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2006 to continue support of the smaller learning communities pilot project at Santa Fe high school and Capital high school, including strategic planning for teachers and administrators to work with parents and communities to develop academies and career pathways, visit successful models of smaller learning communities and plan integrated lessons. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2006 shall revert to the general fund.
