AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO EXPAND GENDER EQUITY IN INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS IN COMPLIANCE WITH TITLE 9 OF THE FEDERAL EDUCATION AMENDMENTS OF 1972 AFFECTING NCAA CERTIFICATION OF NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico state university for expenditure in fiscal year 2006 to expand gender equity in intercollegiate athletics and achieve compliance with Title 9 of the federal Education Amendments of 1972 for the national collegiate athletic association certification. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2006 shall revert to the general fund.
