A JOINT MEMORIAL

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF FORMER REPRESENTATIVE JACK DANIELS.

 

     WHEREAS, former state Representative Jack Daniels died September 3, 2003; and

     WHEREAS, he was a Hobbs businessman and the father of Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish; and

     WHEREAS, he was known for helping others and for the Daniels fund, a foundation established by his family to help young people get college educations, giving about thirty million dollars ($30,000,000) a year; and

     WHEREAS, Governor Bill Richardson said upon his death that "Jack Daniels was a true friend, and more important, a great New Mexican who contributed so much to this state and to our country"; and

     WHEREAS, he was recognized as a man with "great integrity and a generous soul"; and

     WHEREAS, he was born on October 31, 1923, graduated from the New Mexico military institute and attended the university of New Mexico and Harvard university before serving in World War II; and

     WHEREAS, he returned to Hobbs after the war to help with the family insurance business; and

     WHEREAS, he served as a state representative from Lea county from 1967 to 1970; and

     WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife, Sharon Kidd Daniels; his children, Bobby Daniels, Diane Daniels Denish and Dana Daniels Reaud; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that condolences be expressed to the family, friends and colleagues of Jack Daniels, a loving and devoted New Mexican with unusual integrity and generosity; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to Sharon Daniels, Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish, Bobby Daniels and Dana Reaud.
