A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING NONPROFIT AGENCIES FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE HEALTH, WELFARE AND WELL-BEING OF NEW MEXICO'S RESIDENTS.
WHEREAS, there are approximately six thousand registered nonprofit agencies in the state of New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, nonprofit agencies contributed more than two billion nine hundred million dollars ($2,900,000,000) to the state's economy in 2002, and more than one billion one hundred million dollars ($1,100,000,000) of that came from nongovernmental sources; and
WHEREAS, there are nonprofit agencies located in every county in the state; and
WHEREAS, these nonprofit agencies are governed by volunteer boards, made up of caring and concerned residents of each community; and
WHEREAS, nonprofit agencies provide essential services to the vulnerable residents of our state, including children living in poverty, the ill, the elderly and the disabled; and
WHEREAS, nonprofit agencies are among the strongest advocates for these vulnerable residents; and
WHEREAS, other nonprofit agencies enrich the lives of all of our residents by promoting the arts and the rich culture of our state and by protecting the environment; and
WHEREAS, these nonprofit agencies greatly extend and enhance the ability of state government to meet the needs of the residents of New Mexico;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the work of nonprofit agencies be recognized and that they be commended for the invaluable and outstanding contributions they make to the state and all of its residents; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the efforts of nonprofit agencies be supported as they continue to organize and gain membership for New Mexico's statewide association of nonprofit agencies; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the statewide nonprofit association and of all nonprofit agencies be called upon to be full partners in shaping the public policy and legislation that will lead this state in its quest for a better life for all New Mexicans; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the statewide nonprofit association, NGO New Mexico.
