A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE FILM ADVISORY BOARD TO WORK TO RECRUIT THE ANNUAL "GPHORIA AWARDS SHOW" TO ALBUQUERQUE.

 

     WHEREAS, the legislature and the governor are united in their quest to bring good high-paying jobs to the state of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, national exposure from events like the international balloon fiesta help showcase New Mexico and provide state economic development officials with an opportunity to recruit companies and businesses to New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the selection of Albuquerque as the permanent host city for the cable channel G4's annual video game awards show known as the "Gphoria Awards Show" would bring more national attention and exposure to the state of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the selection of Albuquerque as a site for additional G4 television productions would increase job opportunities for the state's existing and future film and television crews;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the economic development department and the film advisory board be requested to make every effort to recruit the "Gphoria Awards Show" to New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the department and the board be requested to work with the tourism department, the city of Albuquerque, Bernalillo county and private entities with expertise in the field in this effort; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of economic development and the chair of the film advisory board.
