SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Joint Memorial 27 requests the governor
to renegotiate Indian gaming compacts to require the funds set aside by tribes
to treat compulsive gamblers be paid to the department of health for administration
of the treatment programs.
Significant Issues
The current compacts do not require public
disclosure of how tribes spend their compulsive gambler program funds. The recommended change would make the use of
compulsive gambler funds public and would standardize the use and
administration of those funds under DOH.
RELATIONSHIP
SB 251 creates a compulsive gambler treatment
fund to distribute funds paid by racetracks and Indian tribes for the treatment
programs through the Department of Health
