SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 232
appropriates $85 thousand from the general fund to the PED to develop a Navajo
code talker curriculum and multimedia project for public schools.
Significant Issues
This bill proposes to include in the public
school curricula the seldom highlighted contribution of the Navajo people to
the winning of World War II. This will
require the collaboration of state education departments in several states in
as well as intensive interaction with code talkers still alive.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $85
thousand contained in this bill is an expense to the. Any unexpended or
unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY05 shall revert to the general
fund.
