SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Memorial 31
requests the Legislative Education Study Committee (LESC) to study the governance
structure and rulemaking process of the New Mexico Activities Association,
(NMAA).
Significant Issues
The New Mexico Activities Association regulates,
supervises, directs and administers all interschool competitive activities,
particularly sports activities, in public schools. The NMAA also controls
public school academic competitions.
According to the memorial, “there is little
accountability on association actions, since it is exempt from regulation by
the public education department.”
