SUMMARY
Synopsis of HEC Amendment
The
House Education Committee amendment is technical in nature and does not change
the original intent of the bill.
The
amendment adds “on individual school districts and’ and “schools” on line 9,
page 3.
The
study would address the impact of individual charter schools upon individual
school districts.
Synopsis of Original Bill
House Joint Memorial 33 requests that the
Legislative Education Study Committee (LESC) study charter schools and present
its recommendations to the first session of the 47th legislature,
including:
The fiscal and programmatic impact of the
establishment of charter schools on the state as a whole; and
The number and enrollment size of charter
schools that should be established in individual school districts, so that
school districts may continue to serve students in a fiscally and prudent
number.
