SUMMARY

 

Synopsis of Bill

 

House Bill 396 appropriates $100 thousand from the general fund to the Economic Development Department (EDD) to administer the New Mexico quality awards program for business, education, government and health care.  Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.

 

Significant Issues

 

Quality New Mexico establishes and recognizes businesses in relation to the Baldridge criteria in order to educate, encourage, and reward quality in business, education, government and healthcare.

 

 

 

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

 

The appropriation of $100.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.

 

OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES

 

According to the State Department of Public Education (SDPE), this bill enhances education efforts and assists educators with a process that has positive results for students and schools. This bill supports a systematic process for improving student achievement by promoting and supporting continuous quality improvement processes in schools.
