SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 284 appropriates $60 thousand from the general fund to SAOA for the purpose of operating the South Valley Multipurpose Family Services Center in Bernalillo County.

Significant Issues

SAOA states the South Valley Multipurpose Center will serve as an adult daycare and senior meal site.  The facility is being renovated through a capital projects appropriation.  The center will provide educational, social, recreational, and cultural enrichment for the community.  The facility will also include childcare, Head Start, adult education, a studio workshop, charter school, traditional Hispano cultural programs, mini-gymnasium, therapeutic pool and outdoor recreation.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The appropriation of $60 thousand contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.

The services would be contracted through the City of Albuquerque Area Agency on Aging.

POSSIBLE QUESTIONS

  1. What is the current source of funds for operating the center?
  2. What additional services will be provided as a result of the appropriation?
