SUMMARY

 

Synopsis of Bill

 

House Bill 233 amends the antiterrorism act to prohibit trespass on agricultural facilities to contaminate, threaten or destroy the food supply or disrupt agricultural operations to cause public fear. Conviction on this charge is a fourth degree felony to be sentenced for a definite term of eighteen months or, in the discretion of the sentencing court, to a fine of not more than five thousand dollars ($5,000), or both.

 

Significant Issues

HB233 supports the draft New Mexico 3-yr domestic preparedness strategy regarding agricultural response and health response. The strategy was prepared for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
