SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Joint Memorial
58 requests the Legislative Education Study Committee (LESC) to study services
for gifted students that are currently being delivered across the state and to
suggest improvements for gifted education.
Significant Issues
According to PED, students with giftedness are
identified and served under the same regulations as are students with
disabilities, with minor exceptions. Gifted students also generate funding
under the State Equalization Guarantee according to the amount of service they
receive in the same manner as students with disabilities.
The memorial specifies that this study should
include input from representative constituencies from around the state, as well
as the gifted advisory board.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
According to PED,
there would be no administrative impact on the PED or school districts.
