SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate
Bill 433 appropriates $30 thousand from the general fund to the Corrections
Department for expenditure in FY05 to fund programs to provide support groups
and coping skills for families of inmates and to provide reintegration skills
and support for inmates. Unexpended
balances revert at the end of FY05.
Significant Issues
The Corrections Department points out that they
have recently implemented a family services coordinator position to provide
some of the services that are to be funded by this appropriation.
FISCAL
IMPLICATIONS
Senate
Bill 433 appropriates $30 thousand to the Corrections Department in FY05 to
fund programs to provide support groups and coping skills to families of
inmates, as well as reintegration skills and support for inmates. The Corrections Department believes they
could use some or all of the funds to contract for such services; or use some or all of the funds to support the Department’s
new Family Services Coordinator.
ADMINISTRATIVE
IMPLICATIONS
The
Corrections Department believes that Senate Bill 433 would result in a minimal
increase in the administrative burden on the family services coordinator and
perhaps procurement staff. This burden
could be absorbed.
