SUMMARY
Synopsis
of Bill
Senate Bill 293
appropriates $150,000 from the temporary assistance for needy children block
grant (TANF) to the Children, Youth and Families Department, Office of Child
Development to contract with persons employed as early childhood teachers enrolled
in a degreed course at a post-secondary educational institution to improve
their employment skills. |
Significant Issues
According to the Children, Youth and Families
Department, this bill provides an incentive for income eligible individuals to
consider an early childhood teaching career.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $150 thousand contained in
this bill will result in a recurring expense to the TANF grant or general fund
because those qualifying for the assistance will seek it in future years.
Senate Bill 293 provides unexpended or
unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY05 will revert to the TANF
grant.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
The Children, Youth and Families Department
states any additional administrative impact to the department can be absorbed
into existing staff and budget resources.
