Fiscal impact reports (FIRs) are prepared by the Legislative Finance Committee (LFC) for standing finance committees of the NM Legislature. The LFC does not assume responsibility for the accuracy of these reports if they are used for other purposes.

SUMMARY

 

Synopsis of Bill

 

House Joint Memorial 97 states:

 

  • Challenges facing parents are more daunting than ever as children make bad decisions related to substance abuse, illegal activity and sexual relationships.

 

  • Bad decisions by children leads to stress and strain in their relationships with their parents, leaving parents struggling for assistance on how to properly help and educate their children on what is and is not acceptable behavior.

 

  • Toughlove International is a not-for-profit organization that provides on-going support and education services to families, empowering parents and young people to accept responsibility for their actions.

 

On these premises, the Memorial resolves:

 

  • The Children, Youth and families Department be requested to recommend the Toughlove Program as a resource to community agencies and to parents seeking assistance with troubled children.
