SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Joint Memorial
85 resolves that the Legislature supports and encourages national, state and
local efforts to secure access and remove barriers to health care for men and
their families, and further resolves the Legislature encourage the New Mexico
congressional delegation to support the passage of the Men’s Health Act of 2003
(U.S. Senate Bill 1028 and U.S. House Resolution 1734).
Significant Issues
Males’ life expectancy is 5 years less than
females’, they have higher death rates resulting from seven of the eight
leading causes of death, and almost twice the rate of heart disease. Studies show this disparity, in part, results
from lack of awareness,
poor health education and the low number of male-specific health
programs.
