SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Joint Memorial
17 requests the Public Education Department to provide a model safety policy
governing after-hours work at school sites.
Significant Issues
According to PED, the department would
disseminate the model policy to school districts and require them to adopt a
policy covering work during non-school hours.
In the 2003 session, three memorials were passed
on school safety. One of the recommendations from the
School Safety Task Force addressing these memorials was to amend the PED’s Safe Schools Accountability Indicator to require
districts to have in place a school-site policy for faculty and staff regarding
working hours, including before-and after-school hours and weekends.
