SUMMARY
Synopsis
of HTC amendment
The House Transportation Committee (HTC)
amendment to House Joint Memorial 7 revises language in the original bill to
focus the wording at conservation of U.S. Highway 60, rather than historical
preservation. It seems the historic preservation language may have had the
impact of restricting the NMDOT flexibility for highway improvements.
Synopsis of Original Bill
House Joint Memorial 7 requests the U.S.
Congress to designate U.S. Highway 60 as a national historic highway. Futhermore, the
joint memorial requests Congress to pass legislation and the President to enact, that would authorize the Secretary for the U.S.
Department of Interior to develop grant programs for technical assistance and
preservation of the highway.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
HJM
7 does not carry an appropriation.
