SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 234 appropriates $50 thousand from
the general fund to Traffic Safety Bureau of the New Mexico Department of
Transportation for the purpose of hiring one full-time staff person to draft
rules and supervise the rulemaking process for ignition interlock devices pursuant
to court orders and voluntary installation of ignition interlock devices in
motor vehicles. Given passage of related legislation mandating ignition
interlocks in every new or used vehicle sold (HB126), this staff person would
develop similar rules.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $50 thousand contained in
this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or
unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY05 shall revert to the general
fund.
