SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 275 makes changes to current legislation relating to the Parole Board.  The bill specifies that the Parole Board is administratively attached to the Corrections Department, gives the Parole Board Chairman the responsibility of scheduling hearings for the Board and creates a new section of law that sets out the powers and duties of the director of the Parole Board which were formerly set out as powers of the Board as a whole.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

HB 275 has no fiscal impact

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

The Parole Board will need to update policies and procedures to implement the changes to their legislation.

TECHNICAL ISSUES

The Corrections Department notes that HB 275 duplicates Section 9-3-11 NMSA 1978 which administratively attaches the Parole Board to the Corrections Department.
