MEMORIAL
ENCOURAGING THE GOVERNOR TO
CONSIDER LOCATING HIS PROPOSED FILM INSTITUTE IN SANTA FE.
WHEREAS,
Santa Fe community college has had training programs supportive of the film
industry for several years; and
WHEREAS,
the college has collaborated with several key partners who share a common goal
of workforce and economic development in Santa Fe and throughout the region;
and
WHEREAS,
these partners include the college of Santa Fe, Santa Fe economic development,
incorporated, the chamber of commerce and a variety of local businesses; and
WHEREAS,
there are many benefits that Santa Fe brings as a site for further development
of the film industry, including:
A. an existing infrastructure to support
technical training for the film industry;
B. curricula and faculty in the fields of film
production and direction at the college of Santa Fe and Santa Fe community
college;
C. logistical and technical support from a wide
variety of interested and motivated residents, groups and partnerships;
D. a concentration of individuals with technical
and artistic skills available to work on film-related projects; and
E. the advantage of working in close proximity
to state government to facilitate quick response programs and systems; and
WHEREAS,
Santa Fe has a national reputation as a center for the creative arts;
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW
MEXICO that the governor be encouraged to locate his proposed film institute in
Santa Fe; and
BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the economic
development department and to the governor.
