AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR SALARY INCREASES FOR DEPARTMENT OF GAME AND FISH EMPLOYEES; PROVIDING FOR A TIERED SALARY SCHEDULE FOR EMPLOYEES THAT INDEXES SALARIES OF CONSERVATION OFFICERS BASED ON EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND RISK.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION--CONTINGENCY.--

          A. Four hundred fifty-seven thousand dollars ($457,000) is appropriated from the game protection fund to the department of game and fish for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 to provide an eighteen percent salary increase to department of game and fish conservation officers who are commissioned law enforcement officers, contingent upon the requirements of Subsection C of this section.

          B. Two hundred fifty-two thousand dollars ($252,000) is appropriated from the game protection fund to the department of game and fish for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 to provide salary increases for classified clerical, secretarial and farm and ranch workers of the department, contingent upon the requirements of Subsection C of this section.

          C. The appropriations in Subsections A and B of this section are contingent upon the department of game and fish adopting a tiered salary schedule for all employees based on experience and job qualifications. The salary schedule shall index salaries of conservation officers who are commissioned law enforcement officers based on education, experience and risk involved in the job assignment. The department shall request the state personnel office to reclassify commissioned conservation officers or to assign them to an alternative pay band.

          D. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the game protection fund.
