FOR THE INDIAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

 

AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE NEW MEXICO OFFICE OF INDIAN AFFAIRS FOR A STATE CEMETERY TO HOUSE UNIDENTIFIED OR UNCLAIMED NATIVE AMERICAN ANCESTRAL REMAINS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the New Mexico office of Indian affairs for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 and subsequent fiscal years for a state cemetery to support the need of New Mexico's Native American population to provide a secure final resting place for unidentified or unclaimed Native American ancestral remains. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of a fiscal year shall not revert to the general fund.
