AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A MEDIA LITERACY CURRICULUM TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS IN SUBJECTS NECESSARY FOR SUCCESSFUL EMPLOYMENT.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the economic development department for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 to develop a curriculum for public school students in kindergarten through eighth grade that includes media literacy skills in the areas of mathematics, science, technology and successful study habits in order to give students a foundation in critical thinking necessary for successful employment. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.
