FOR THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE

 

AN ACT

RELATING TO TEACHERS; REQUIRING THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO ISSUE SUBSTITUTE TEACHER CERTIFICATES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. Section 22-10A-15 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 2003, Chapter 153, Section 46) is amended to read:

     "22-10A-15. SUBSTITUTE TEACHER CERTIFICATE.--The [state board] department shall provide by rule for the qualifications for a substitute teacher certificate. [A local school board may provide for additional qualifications or requirements as it deems necessary.] Substitute teacher certificates shall be issued by the [school district] department."

     Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2004.
