AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A TEACHER CADET PROGRAM.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for a teacher cadet program for expenditure in fiscal year 2005. The public education department and school district representatives shall work with the commission on higher education, teacher preparation programs and community colleges to develop concurrent enrollment courses that address current issues in education as well as innovative teaching practices. School districts may apply to the department for funding for teacher cadet programs. The department shall provide technical assistance to eligible schools in developing funding proposals. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall not revert to the general fund.
